Exercise - National Medical Weight Loss Programme

IMPORTANT:  Before embarking on any exercise programme, if you have any concerns or queries you should check with your regular General Practitioner

Choosing Exercise

Selecting the type of exercise you would like to undertake is a very personal choice. It is best done with lifestyle and ability in mind as undertaking a programme that you have little interest in or is too intense unlikely to be maintained over time.

Many people find joining a group or class or to start on a programme with friends or family a good motivator. Maintaining exercise is an important part of this and any weight loss programme and having people there when you are having a bad day is great.

Exercise Apps

If the idea of joining a gym or class is not for you then there are multiple apps for mobile phones that provide access to a wide variety of types of exercise.

Even if you do decide to join a gym, a class or group, the exercise apps can keep track of your achievements and can help you stay on target.

We are also happy to provide you with support if you choose to use MyFitnessPal by becoming part of your exercise circle.

Pacing Yourself

While you may want to get stuck right in it is important to build up your exercise programme. Burning a smaller amount of calories on a regular basis is better than putting yourself out of action for days because you have overdone it.

Starting with just walking for a short time each day is perfectly acceptable and over time with improved exercise tolerance this can be improved on and you will be well on your way to your weight loss and fitness goals.
